4.21.2003 - hello everyone. things have changed quite a bit
for me since the last time i wrote. i got married to a wonderful
man and we are living in guadalajara, mexico where he is attending
medical school and i am coaching gymnastics. i want to share
a little story of just one of the many benefits of being a
parkette. when i first went down to mexico i did not speak
one word of spanish but i needed a job so i decided to check
out the local gyms in the phone book. i chose the one with
the biggest ad and it just so happened that the owner of the
gym new of the strauss's and was willing to give me a job.
i asked what i would do about the language and he said just
use alot of hand motions for now and you will learn!!! so
i did and things are going great! i would love to hear from
any of my old teammates......
9.26.2000 - HI. My name is Sarah Balogach. I have been invovled
with the Parkettes since the age of five and although my days
as a gymnast have quickly passed, I still feel the need to
be involved with this place that I hold very dear to my heart.
The love and support I have received both during and after
my career truly shows the greatness and loyalty of the Parkette
coaches. It would be impossible to go through all of the amazing
experiences and lessons I have gotten out of being a Parkette
gymnast. Yet there is one incident I would like to share that
really has nothing to do with gymnastics but rather will help
to define all that I feel the Parkettes stand for. As some
of you may know my sister Becky (also a former Parkette gymnast)
was diagnosed a couple months back with a brain tumor. Afraid
and hysterical I knew I needed to speak with Mrs. Strauss.
As I expected, she along with the rest of the Parkettes were
there for my family and I every step of the way. The hope
and encouragement I once needed to get me through a beam set
was now directed toward something far more important, my sisters
life. I can't explain what their words of support did for
us. I just know that they gave a sense of hope and a reason
to believe that everyhting would be okay. Today Becky is doing
well and getting healthier by the day. There are no words
to express how I feel about the Parkettes. I just know that
they are great people with an unusual ability to touch the
lives of everyone they come into contact with and I am just
thankful they are in my life.
